Cakes and Biscuits. |

|
| The
cakes, desserts and pastries that you find in every bar in
Italy, change enormously between the various regions, and
more often than not, from one town to another. We select just
a few from local producers who respect age old traditions
and recipes. |
|
Amaretti, which
translates as "little bitter things", are moist
almond biscuits that date back to the renaissance period,
and are frequently served as an afternoon snack with a cappuccino,
or with after-diner coffee. We bring to you a selection
that was first baked by Moriondo Carlo in 1798, and are
still produced in the same kitchens in the town of Mombaruzzo,
south of Turin. These include the classic almond, almond
with dried fruits candy, and a rather unique variety made
from piedmont hazelnuts. All are wonderful when added to
a bowl of ice cream; dipped in a mild dessert wine or just
simply as they are for the pleasure of them!

| We
have also selected a small range of hand made biscuits and
traditional cakes from a family business based on the incredibly
picturesque Mergozzo lake. Their Veneziana
cake
is a traditional recipe that is best described as a very light
fruit cake along the lines of the better know Panatone, and
their handmade biscuits are a shortbread style selection which
are filled with locally produced jams and creams.
Cantucci are
world famous biscuits from the Tuscan area around Florence,
and are traditionally dipped in a dessert wine. As with
all our products, we select and work with only those companies
who produce the very best.
